Hello, I'm Rob Thompson
I am a pre-licensed graduate student completing my Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Lamar University. I am a clinical intern at Austin STRONG: Relationship Building Center under the supervision of Kristal DeSantis, LMFT. Before beginning my journey towards becoming a therapist, I was a personal coach for about 20 years. My core focus as a personal coach was always to assist my clients in living an authentic life. As an graduate student and practicum intern working toward my Masters degree in Marriage and Family therapy, I will strive to do the same.
Although I was raised Catholic, I am fundamentally a Buddhist. I enjoy practicing yoga and I meditate daily. I love to sing and play guitar. My goal with therapy is to help individuals and families communicate effectively and truly thrive.
Therapy with me
I am passionate about holding a trauma-informed perspective in counseling. I believe that by being sensitive to the impact that trauma may have had on my client’s life, I can better assist them in living a fully authentic life. I have personally seen how trauma can impact the lives of children. Consequently, I have become very passionate about doing what I can to stop the cycle of the recapitulation of trauma in families over generations. I take a fundamentally humanistic approach to counseling with an aversion to pathologizing my client. You should consider working with me if you are looking for a counselor who holds a strong sense of equanimity and comes from a compassionate perspective.
I am currently screening new clients to add to my caseload. I offer virtual and in-person meeting options. If you are interested in a phone consultation with me, please reach out.
